Stop, Drop, and Pray! (1 Samuel 13)
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. –Isaiah 40:31
Saul remained at Gilgal and all the troops
with him were quaking with fear. He waited seven days, the time set by Samuel,
but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul’s men began to scatter…1 Samuel
13:78 (So Saul reacted with what he thought
was best)
Samuel had anointed Saul as King. In chapter 12, Samuel gave this advice…“Only
fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done
for you. -1 Samuel 12:24
“You have done a foolish
thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your
kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart…” -1 Samuel
13:13-14
Constantly, we tend to react in situations
the way that we see fit. We react
quickly, rather than on our knees. Saul
reacted as he saw fit. He offered the
burnt offering without a priest present, but even more, he did not wait. He did not seek God, but reacted how he saw
fit. I hate to admit, that in Saul’s
shoes, I probably would have reacted like him, on my own accord.
Samuel led by example. In chapter 10, he was so angry that Israel
wanted a king. He did not react on his
own accord, but on his knees.
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall
mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall
walk and not faint. –Isaiah 40:31
Father, help us to wait on you in this
day. Help us to respond on our knees,
help us to seek you continually, in this day!
We love you father! Thank you so
much for loving us!
Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his
fact continually. -1 Chron 16:11
