You are Not Alone! (1 Samuel 20)

“May the Lord be with you as He has been with my father.”  -1 Samuel 20:13

What a beautiful reminder to his best friend. His father was trying to kill his best friend.  While trying to re-confirm this fact, while trying to decide if David should run and hide, Jonathan reminded his best friend that he is not alone.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are the; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. –Psalm 139:7-10

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. –Deuteronomy 31:6

And surely, I am with you to the very end of age. –Matthew 28:20

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. –Isaiah 41:10

Whether you are at the highest point or the lowest valley in a slimy pit, he is with you.  Whether you are in the darkest cave or the brightest patch of sunlight he is with you.  Whether you are on the straight path headed in the right direction, or lost as you have veered off course, he is with you.

My friend, open your eyes. You are not alone.  Wherever you are today, he is there.  He will never leave you or forsake you.  He is right there amidst the storm, the sunshine, the chaos, or the stillness of the quiet of the night.  He is there.  So rise up my victorious friend.  Before you start your day, or look at what lies ahead; be still.  Breathe in his presence, and breathe out your worries and stresses. Before you look at your to do list, before your mind races to laundry, the shower, and all that must be taken care of today…sit and rest in his presence.  For you are not alone.  Allow him to fill every space of your heart and mind with the peace that He can give you to start your day.  Empty your heart and mind of all that the world has to offer, and start the day in His presence, in His peace, and soak it in.  Soak it in as you notice the gentle breeze that He has whispered into motion.  Soak in His peace as you feel the warmth of the sun.  Soak in His peace and His presence as you sit in His magnificent stillness!  Let Him fill you with peace, love, grace, and His Holy Spirit.  Breathe out the worries of the world, and breathe in His strength.  Breathe out all that crowds your heart and mind, and breathe in His redeeming love.  Breathe in again, His Majesty so that He may spill out throughout your day throughout your to do list, and throughout your worries.  Take time to bask in His glory and in His peace as it will be the difference in your day today.

Father,

Thank you so much for the promise that you will never leave me or forsake me. Forgive me, for forgetting this.  Open the eyes of my heart Father.  Open my eyes, so that I can see you in this day, so that I can take your yoke, and allow you to lead and guide me in this day.  Open my eyes, so that I can see your presence.  Open my eyes so that I can see your hand in my day.  Open my eyes, so that I can breathe out all of the stresses, all of the world, all of the junk, and grasp you in this day!  I love you so much father!  Thank you for loving me, right now, right here, as you are with me!
