Wait? Really?
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD. -Psalm 27:14
OK. The first word on this verse is wait. WOW! Immediately, my attitude changes when I see this verse. Wait? Really? Does no one realize how busy I am? Doesn't anyone know that I need an answer now? But does waiting have to be negative and bad?
I just read the bible story of the bleeding woman. She had to deal with her bleeding for 12 years. She had been to doctors, who could do nothing. A cure could not be found...
A cure could not be found, yet she still had hope. She knew that she could touch the robe of Jesus and be cured. She believed in his power, his strength, and knew that he could heal her. After 12 years! She continued to wait. She still had the hope and the faith in Jesus! When I do not have the answer I need after 12 hours, I whine and cry and complain! But 12 years! She was labeled as unclean. She was segregated, ignored, looked down upon, and still held on to her faith! And ultimately was healed!
Then, there's Jairus! Jairus had come to find Jesus. Before Jesus had been interrupted by the bleeding woman, he was on his way with Jairus to his home. Jairus' 12 year old daughter was dying. This was a very urgent matter! Jesus stopped to figure out who had touched him. He questioned the people and talked to the bleeding woman. What was Jairus doing during this interaction? I picture him jumping up and down and urging Jesus to hurry! Time was of the essence! But, it was too late. While he was speaking to the woman, a messenger arrived to share that the daughter of Jairus was dead. Oh no! Too late? But no, wait, Jesus tells Jairus, "Do not be afraid. Just have faith, she will be healed."
It was not too late? Jesus expresses to all of the weeping and wailing people as he entered the house, "Stop the weeping! She isn't dead; she's only asleep." ...Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, "My child, get up!" And at that moment her life returned, and she immediately stood up!
Wow! In the story of the woman...had her bleeding stopped immediately on day one, it still would have been a miracle. But, after 12 long years and no cure to be found...the glory could not belong to anyone but Jesus! Jesus could have cured the dying child. It would have been a miracle! But instead he resurrected the dead child! Again, the glory belongs to Jesus alone.
In both stories, waiting was a common theme! The poor bleeding woman had to wait 12 long years. Jairus had to wait as Jesus spoke to the crowd and to the woman. This was an urgent moment! And...he had to wait! Both Jairus and the woman had incredible faith! Their faith was in Jesus alone! Through faith, they had the patience to wait.
I do not have enough faith or patience. I am very impatient! I only have a very small amount of faith! (But wait, isn't that all it takes?) And, I have the holy spirit! Thank you Jesus! I have the holy spirit, and when I get out of the way and keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the holy spirit can work in me. The holy spirit can give me the faith and patience that I need to trust Him and wait on Him.
Thank you so much father! Thank you for loving me. Thank you for the holy spirit! Father, thank you for working in me, while I wait. Thank you for teaching me to wait. I love you so much! I am constantly in awe of you. And thank you for loving me, exactly where and how I am.
Love,
Your waiting daughter
